Our children don’t turn 5 and magically wake up ready for school! Our role is to guide, support and prepare them for this big transition.
Our Leap into Learning Literacy lessons follow an evidence-based Structured Literacy approach, that aligns with the approach adopted by many of our local schools. The lessons introduce your child to correct letter sounds and formations, and are carefully designed to ensure a smooth and confident transition to school.
Structured Literacy
Bridging phonological awareness and handwriting through a code-based approach to ensure reading and spelling are not left to chance.
Learning Objectives:
Sound Mastery: Recognise all consonant and vowel sounds in isolation.
Writing Skills: Hold a pencil correctly and form letters accurately.
Phonemic Awareness: Understand that letters make sounds and represent them in writing.
Spelling and Reading: Isolate and blend sounds for spelling and reading, with a focus on short vowel sounds.
Reading Fluency: Improve word-level and sentence-level reading fluency.
Sound Discrimination: Differentiate between similar sounds.
High-Frequency Words: Build a bank of common sight words.
Vowel and Consonant Knowledge: Correctly articulate short and long vowel sounds and identify consonants.
Phonological Awareness: Develop skills in auditory discrimination, alliteration, rhyming, and syllable segmentation.
